Some people are under the impression that funding for prisons is a dominant part of the state budget.
The graph below shows that funding for the department of corrections is a small percentage of the total state budget. Yet, this funding is essential to give credibility to our criminal justice system and to protect innocent people.
Spending for Measure 11 is a small fraction, about one eighth*, of total corrections spending.
